We were admittedly concerned when the May Infrastructure and Transport Minister’s Meeting went by, with no official word that the proposed changes were approved or even discussed. However in the past week we have suddenly received confirmation on all fronts - PMDs are here to stay!

In exactly two months, the Transport Ministers will be meeting at the mid-year meeting to discuss the legalisation of our devices. We have organised a video shoot and social media campaign that's aiming to reach 100,000 Australians on Facebook and Instagram with our petition.

PMD Legalisation Update #4 - Out of Control Fines! We Need Your Support
Recently, a teenager in Darwin was fined $316 for riding his electric scooter in an area where public hire e-scooters are readily and legally available. Meanwhile in Sydney, an electric skateboard rider was fined $697 for riding an “uninsured motor vehicle”. All across various Facebook groups, we are seeing posts from riders who have received warnings or fines from the police.

PMD Legalisation Update #3 - Reaching Our Government
We are trying to educate our politicians, this week meeting with Senator Andrew Bragg. It was a productive time spent, with Senator Bragg committing to make representations on our behalf to Federal Transport Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack MP before the mid-year Transport Ministers Meeting.

PMD Legalisation Update #2 - Meetings and Video Shoots
Our legalisation campaign and petition has grown in momentum and has already increased awareness with Members of Parliament and the media. In addition to our radio interview, we have helped organise a meeting between Trent Zimmerman MP, Ben from Ben Buckler Boards and Stephen from Zipidi Electric Scooters, leading to a positive discussion about the legalisation campaign.

It has been a surreal week for Electric Riders Australia. Within just 24 hours of launching, we had reached 1,000 signatures, and that number continues to rise by the minute.

We were started by members of various grassroots Facebook groups from all over Australia and are recognised by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission as a registered charity.
