We were admittedly concerned when the May Infrastructure and Transport Minister’s Meeting went by, with no official word that the proposed changes were approved or even discussed. However in the past week we have suddenly received confirmation on all fronts - PMDs are here to stay!
New Research Shows Significant Positive Economic Effects of Shared Scooter Schemes
A study into consumer purchase patterns across 8 cities in the United States has found that businesses in cities that had shared electric scooter hire schemes were, on average, US$3.45 million (AUD $4.53 million) better off than cities without these systems in place.

PMD Legalisation Update #4 - Out of Control Fines! We Need Your Support
Recently, a teenager in Darwin was fined $316 for riding his electric scooter in an area where public hire e-scooters are readily and legally available. Meanwhile in Sydney, an electric skateboard rider was fined $697 for riding an “uninsured motor vehicle”. All across various Facebook groups, we are seeing posts from riders who have received warnings or fines from the police.
Teen Cops Fine in NT in Spite of Legal Rental E-Scooters
Despite electric scooters being freely and legally available to rent on footpaths across Darwin, a 16-year-old boy was pulled up by Darwin Waterfront rangers on Tuesday for riding his own e-scooter, and issued a $316 fine.

It was a productive time spent, with Senator Bragg committing to make representations on our behalf to Federal Transport Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack MP before the mid-year Transport Ministers Meeting.

Today Willoughby City Councillor Brendon Zhu met with Federal Senator Andrew Bragg to discuss the legalisation campaign on behalf of our members. Senator Bragg was open to our campaign and made a commitment to make a representation on our behalf to the Federal Transport Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack MP. Senator Bragg even tried an e-scooter for the first time!
NSW Transport Minister Shuts Down E-Scooter Trial Talks
NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance was scathing in his attacks on electric scooters at the latest NSW budget estimates hearing, dismissing talks of potential trials by simply stating that he wasn’t “in the mood” at this point in time.

Vehicle Impounded in Benalla, Vic
Benalla Police has seized an electric scooter earlier this week and had it towed to their impound facility. The owner was reported to have been “breaking a number of road rules”.
